Valeria recently participated in the thrilling @radrace 120 Team Edition, and she’s excited to share her racing experiences with you! The adventure kicked off on Saturday with a team mountain time trial, spanning 4.2 kilometers and featuring a challenging 380 meters of elevation gain. This time trial was crucial for securing a strong starting position for the main race that took place on Sunday. It was a unique challenge, pushing her beyond the typical 12-minute all-out effort she was used to.

Thanks to their impressive performance, Valeria and her team qualified for Block A, setting the stage for the main event. The race itself was a hefty 127 kilometers long with 2300 meters of elevation gain, starting with a neutralized 6-kilometer stretch. But that didn’t stop the adrenaline-fueled competitors from kicking off at a blistering 40 km/h. With about 3000 participants, the start was undoubtedly the most chaotic and nerve-wracking part of the race. Everyone was eager to find their place, and the tricky weather conditions, particularly the rain-soaked descents, added to the challenge.

For Valeria, the distance wasn’t a concern. She felt strong throughout the race, and the elevation gain was manageable. She made sure to keep her nutrition on point, especially given the cold temperatures, which kept her energized and ready to tackle the course. Riding as a team was a source of comfort for her, reminiscent of her experiences in football, where teamwork and support are key. However, the confusion of the race made it tough to stick together and support one another effectively. She found herself uncertain about whether to push ahead or wait for her teammates, particularly since the time of the third woman counted for their overall placement.

Ultimately, Valeria and her team rode cautiously, finishing with a solid ride time of 4:01. They celebrated an amazing achievement, landing in 2nd place as a team! The event itself offered a cool format, but Valeria noted the challenges women face in asserting themselves amidst such a large field. It often feels like the race is about catching onto fast men’s groups, which can make it difficult to gauge how women are performing in their own right.

Congratulations to Valeria for her impressive finish! We can’t wait to hear more about her future racing experiences.
