What does it take to win one of the largest ultra-cycling races in the world as a team of eight? Recently, we had the opportunity to chat with Sören from the SVE Ultraracing team about their impressive journey in the Race Across America, a prestigious event that challenges cyclists like no other.

SVE Ultraracing is a sports club hailing from the small community of Enge-Sande, located near the Danish border. Since 2019, they have been making waves in the ultra-cycling scene, participating in relay events and achieving remarkable success. After setting course records in Germany, Denmark, and throughout Europe, their sights were set on the ultimate challenge: the Race Across America.

Preparation is key in any race, and the SVE team knew they had to optimize their performance before hitting the road. With the help of Aerotune, they focused on their aerodynamics during two crucial testing days. This attention to detail paid off, as they managed to increase their average speed by 1-2 km/h—a significant boost that can make all the difference in a race of this magnitude.

When it came down to winning, the dynamics of the competition played a role. The SVE team emerged victorious among the relay teams, but it’s interesting to note that only two eight-person relay teams and twelve four-person relay teams participated. Despite the victory, Sören emphasized that their primary focus was not just on winning, but on making it onto the all-time best list. This mindset, combined with a solid training regimen, excellent organization, and invaluable experience from past races, contributed to their success. However, perhaps the most critical element of all was the incredible team spirit that fueled their journey.

As they reflect on their experience, Sören hints that there are more stories to share.
