AFU founder Vonzell Barker, or “Coach Von” is an accomplished coach with over 20 years experience working with World, Olympic, and National caliber athletes. With this demonstrated success at all levels, A Faster You was created so that local area youth might have access to these opportunities, and result in lifelong improvement in athletics and all other aspects of their lives. His approach is already bearing fruit, as demonstrated by AFU National Championship winning performances this past summer in the USATF Youth National Championships (Triple Jump), AAU National Junior Olympic Games (4x400m relay), as well as several additional All-American and top 10 national performances. Most recently, AFU competed in the 2015 USATF Indoor National Youth Hershey Championships and won the High School aged (15-18) 4×200 relay and finished 4th in the 4x400m relay, both performances capturing All American honors.
Coach Von has worked with athletes from across the state of Maryland. In fact, a closer look at All Time top three (3) performances at the various high schools his athletes have attended, show that Coach Vons athletes account for more than 200 of these performances.
Outside of track, Coach Von is an accomplished professional with expertise in healthcare management. He has degrees in Medical Radiography, and Healthcare Administration.
Hermond Palmer is a classically trained marketing executive with over twenty years of experience. He has earned an B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business. While at Penn Hermond was a member of the men’s varsity track team, earned a place on the team’s wall of fame, and was a two-time All Ivy League high jumper. He has coached a variety of sports including basketball, track, and baseball for over 20 years. As a track coach he has coached several all-county long, triple and high jumpers, two state champion jumpers, and a USATF Youth National triple jump champion.
Izetta E. Phillips is a highly competent corporate executive with over twenty-five years of experience in sales, training, performance management, coaching, change management, and organizational leadership. The scope of her experience extends over the pharmaceutical and health care industries, and church leadership. She has a leadership style that is both comfortable and persuasive. She holds a B.A. in Telecommunications from The Pennsylvania State University, where she was a full scholarship athlete and captain of the Women’s Volleyball Team.
