The Spring Classics 🌷🚴‍♂️

Team Visma | Lease a Bike is currently deep in the heart of the Spring Classics season. Both the women’s and men’s squads are in the final stages of preparation for two of the toughest and most iconic one-day races in the world: the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.

These races are known for their brutal courses – relentless cobblestones, steep climbs, unpredictable weather, and a level of intensity that pushes every rider to their absolute limit. It’s where legends are made, and only the strongest come out on top.

Exciting Update: BETA Lactate & W′ Integration in our Activity AI 🥳

We’re thrilled to announce a powerful new addition to our Activity AIs: the integration of blood lactate and muscle lactate dynamics. This innovation allows athletes to see not only when a session was maximally fatiguing, but more importantly, how exhausting it truly was. 🤗

By combining lactate behavior with W′ (W-prime), we provide deeper insight into training stress. The key innovation? A delayed W′ response in relation to lactate accumulation – giving a much clearer picture of accumulated fatigue, especially in longer sessions. This helps athletes and coaches better understand endurance limits and optimize recovery strategies.

Stay tuned – we’re just getting started.

Valeria & Jil at The Hills Gravel Race in Italy ⛰️🌧️

Race Stats: - Distance: 180 km - Elevation Gain: 2300 hm - Time: 8h 35min

Valeria, how did you cope with the tough conditions? 😲
"The conditions were completely unpredictable, so you immediately switched into action mode instead of overthinking. Basically, it was survival mode. The race became very technical due to the swampy, wet terrain. It took me a while to get a feel for it. Toward the end, I was getting better and better, even though the conditions were getting worse and worse. All in all, I got through really well and I'm proud of the progress I made during the race."

Valeria, what do you think was crucial for being able to finish the race?
"The key factor was definitely mental strength. 🧠 Covering the 180 km felt like a slow grind, the conditions required full concentration at all times, and I was on my own for long stretches. But none of that would have worked without solid nutrition to keep energy levels stable and avoid getting cold."

How did you manage your nutrition?
"I managed to take in 90 grams of carbs per hour. Even if now and then a bottle had to double as cleaning fluid for my drivetrain and glasses!"

Jil, how did you feel mentally being out there on your own for so long? 🤯
"Mentally, it was definitely tough. Even though I was physically prepared, the mental side was a whole different challenge. There were moments when I really hit my limit and thought, 'Wow, this is going to be a real struggle.' Especially when I’d already done about 120 kilometers and was completely exhausted — and then realizing, 'Okay, there are still 60 more to go.' That was mentally really hard, knowing there was still a lot ahead."

Jil, how did the race go for you overall, and what are you proud of?
"The race started off well — I knew I’d trained really hard over the past few months and came out of winter in great shape. The first 25–30 km were flat, so it was all about getting into a good position before the technical parts. I avoided a few crashes that luckily happened behind me. When the field split up in the mud, it got tough, and I rode alone quite a bit, but also had some company here and there. What I’m really proud of is how strong I felt mentally. In past races, I sometimes thought about quitting — but not this time. I knew I was in a good spot, and that gave me strength. I just really wanted to finish, and I did."

P.S.: We’ve just launched a brand-new feature in beta – definitely worth checking out! 😜
