Hans, What Does It Take to Race Cape Epic?

Björn Kafka

Björn Kafka coaches several athletes who are competing in this year’s Cape Epic. While the preparation follows similar structures, each athlete’s training is individually tailored to their needs. After all, there’s no universal formula for success in the toughest multi-day mountain bike race. Or is there? 😉 After all, every single one of our athletes used our Powertest during their preparation! 😂

Georg Egger 🔥

Georg is gearing up for his third Cape Epic alongside his racing partner, Lukas Baum. The duo claimed a stunning underdog victory in 2022 but faced tough challenges in the following two years—mainly due to technical issues in the demanding race conditions. Vera Looser

Vera, originally from Namibia, is an incredibly experienced marathon rider for whom the Cape Epic has been one of the biggest highlights of her racing calendar for years. In 2023, she conquered the grueling stage race and took home the victory. Her success didn’t stop there - last year, she won two UCI Mountain Bike World Series races and secured the overall title. This year, she’s lining up alongside her partner, Alexis Skarda, and we’re excited to see what they can achieve. We’ll be cheering them on and keeping our fingers crossed!

Jaki Hartmann & Andi Seewald

A new duo has formed for the Cape Epic: Andi and Jaki. Andi recently joined the Singer Racing Team and will be racing the Cape Epic for the first time alongside Jaki in this new pairing. The two have already proven to be a strong match in their first test races this year, and we’re excited to see them take on the challenge together. Andi is no stranger to the Cape Epic - he has competed in the world’s toughest stage race multiple times and has claimed numerous stage wins along the way. Jaki, on the other hand, has developed into an exceptionally fast and successful marathon rider over the past few years, delivering an outstanding 2024 season so far. This pairing brings together two incredibly strong athletes, and we can’t wait to see what they can achieve at the Cape Epic! 🙌 Photo© Roy Potterill

Martin Frey

Martin is once again lining up at the Cape Epic this year alongside his partner, Simon Stiebjahn. He has already claimed stage wins at the Cape Epic and has stood on the top step of the podium in other Epic Series races as part of a duo. 💪 After a challenging past year, we’re thrilled to see Martin back in top form at the start line. They are using the final days before the start of the stage race to acclimate and fine-tune their preparations. We’re excited to see what Marc Stutzmann, Simon Schneller, and Tim Smeenge can achieve this year alongside their respective duo partners!
