🇿🇦 Cape Epic Update

There's a fine line between triumph and pure suffering in this race. 🥵 Every year, it's fascinating to witness how this race pushes athletes to their absolute limits. Just making it to the start line in peak shape is a challenge in itself - but that’s only the beginning. Scorching heat, endless dust, mechanical issues, nutrition problems, and the list goes on. Facing these challenges is nothing short of admirable. It truly is the toughest mountain bike race in the world.

Coach Björn also says that the Cape Epic is always a rollercoaster. 🎢 That’s why he’s all the more thrilled that Vera Looser and her partner have made it onto the podium in almost every stage so far and are currently sitting in second place overall. They’ve paced themselves incredibly well, stage by stage, and as a result, they’ve been riding a consistently strong race. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that Vera’s Cape Epic story continues to be just as successful this year – and that they can hold on to their second place in the GC.

Unfortunately, things aren’t going smoothly for all athletes, and once again, the Cape Epic is pushing bodies to the absolute limit. With temperatures soaring above 40°C, not only is pacing strategy crucial, but so is nutrition. Some riders are struggling to take in enough energy - and combined with the extreme heat, that becomes a brutal challenge that’s incredibly hard to truly prepare for. All athletes included heat training in their prep, of course, but the reality of this race still takes it to another level. Especially when the body isn’t 100% healthy, every stage turns into a battle. 🥵🥵

Still, every athlete who finishes this race is an absolute hero – managing to overcome the daily challenges, one stage at a time. Of course, we’re continuing to cheer hard for all our athletes and are excited that, alongside Vera, Georg Egger has also made it onto the podium in some stages. Marc Stutzmann is having a strong race too - he and his partner are currently holding 4th place in the overall standings. We’re excited to see what the rest of the race has in store! 😊
