aeroAPP Garmin Setup: Install & Fix Silent Login (2026)

You tap Login on the Edge. It says: look at your phone. The phone does nothing. No error, no spinner, nothing to google. It is a recurring aeroAPP support question, and in the cases we have handled it came down to three things: the Garmin Connect app, the browser setting on iOS, or the permissions and restrictions of the Garmin account. This is the install-to-first-run guide for the aeroAPP, with those silent failures first, because that is where people get stuck.

What the aeroAPP is

A Garmin Connect IQ app that runs on your Edge and turns an aeroTEST into a guided ride. It counts you down to the start of your test route, tells you when to turn, checks each run against the previous one, and sends the data to afasteryou.com through your phone. Your aerodynamic drag area (CdA) appears on the Edge after each run the platform has calculated. Everything is also saved as a FIT file on the device, so a lost phone connection never loses a run.

Devices: Garmin Edge 520 Plus, 530, 540, 550, 830, 840, 850, 1030 (including Plus and the Bontrager edition), 1040, 1050, Explore 2 and the Edge MTB. It is an Edge app; there is no watch version.

Cost: the app is free, and outdoor aeroTESTs are part of the free account. The Professional mode (unlimited runs per setup, rolling-resistance test) needs a Powermonth; velodrome testing needs the Coach account. No account yet? Create your free account before you open the app.

Install

  1. On your phone, open the Connect IQ Store (the Garmin Connect app has it under More, or use the separate Connect IQ app) and search for aeroAPP by Afasteryou, or open the store page directly.
  2. Install it to your Edge. The Edge must be paired with the phone through Garmin Connect; the app arrives on the device at the next sync.
  3. On the Edge, the aeroAPP appears under the Connect IQ apps. Open it once at home. You want to solve the login on the sofa, not at the roadside.

How the login works

This is worth thirty seconds, because it explains every failure below. The Edge has no keyboard and no browser. When you tap Login, the aeroAPP asks your phone, through the Garmin Connect app, to open a login page in the phone's browser. You log in there with your afasteryou.com account. The browser hands a token back to Garmin Connect, Garmin Connect hands it to the Edge, and the Edge shows Login successful!

So the chain is: Edge, Bluetooth, Garmin Connect app, phone browser, afasteryou.com, and back. If any link is missing, the Edge waits and the phone shows nothing.

(The device may still say "log in to aerotune.com": that is our old name, and it forwards to afasteryou.com. The login page that opens is afasteryou.com, and your afasteryou.com account is the right one. The address that no longer works is data.aerotune.com, the one printed in the old PDF guides.)

When nothing happens: three silent failures

Work through them in this order.

1. Garmin Connect is not running, or the phone is not connected. Open the Garmin Connect app on the phone, wait until it shows the Edge as connected, leave it open in the foreground, then tap Login on the Edge again. The handoff needs the Garmin Connect app awake; a phone with Garmin Connect closed or Bluetooth off cannot open anything.

2. iPhone: Safari is not your default browser. In the current login flow on iOS, the handoff fails silently unless Safari is the default browser. Settings, Safari, Default Browser App, Safari. You can switch back after the login; the token stays on the Edge.

3. Garmin Connect is restricted. A Garmin account or device with restrictions (a managed or family account, or app permissions on the phone that deny Garmin Connect network or Bluetooth access) never delivers the login page. Check the phone's app permissions for Garmin Connect, and check that the Garmin account itself has no restrictions. Once they are lifted, the login works at the next attempt.

If all three are fine and the phone still shows nothing, restart the Edge and the phone, open Garmin Connect first, then try again. If that fails too, write to info@afasteryou.com with your phone model and its operating system version, the Edge model, the Garmin Connect and aeroAPP versions, and what the Edge showed. That is what we need to dig further.

Settings, explained

  • Modus, Basic or Professional. Basic guides you through two runs per setup and asks for a third only when they disagree. Professional lets you ride as many runs as you like and adds the rolling-resistance test (beta). Professional needs a Powermonth.
  • CdA unit. Aero points (aP, 1 aP = 0.01 m²) or square metres. We recommend aP: 22.8 reads better than 0.228.
  • Power calculation. The speed at which the Edge converts a CdA difference into watts saved; you choose from three speeds.
  • Time calculation. The race route on which the Edge converts a CdA difference into time saved, at the power of your session.
  • View of difference. Relative or absolute deltas between setups on the result screen.
  • Show on website. Sends your phone to the current aeroTEST on afasteryou.com, to edit the session details while you are still at the road.
  • Feedback to test, On or Off. The verdict after each run: validate with an extra run, position stable, or repeat. Off keeps the Edge quiet between runs; the check still happens on the platform.
  • Biketype. Time trial bike, road bike, mountain bike or cyclocross: select the category that matches the bike you are testing.
  • Power smooth, 3, 5 or 10 s. How many seconds the power number on the screen averages. 3 s is the default; pick the one you can ride to.
  • Speed sensor: On, Off, Always, If found. Always tells the app to expect the sensor on every run; If found uses it when it is there and GPS speed when it is not. A sensor lowers the uncertainty of a run, so if you own one, choose Always: a sleeping sensor should stop the run, not quietly turn it into a GPS run.

Test routes are tied to where you stand

When you start a new aeroTEST, the app asks the platform for your saved test routes near your GPS position and offers the ones whose start point is less than about three kilometres away. Stand somewhere else and the menu shows only "New test route", which is correct: you ride an aeroTEST on the road you are standing on. Ride to the road, wait for the GPS fix, then start. Routes can be renamed or deleted on afasteryou.com under Aerotest, Test routes.

Before the first run: a checklist

  • aeroAPP installed and logged in at home
  • Garmin Connect on the phone, phone paired, mobile data on
  • Power meter paired and calibrated once
  • Speed sensor paired, circumference entered by hand
  • Test route chosen; the road matters more than the kit
  • The protocol in your head, the quality rules in your legs

FAQ

Do I have to carry the phone during the runs? The phone is needed to log in, to load your session and routes, and to send each run when it ends, back at the start marker. Our platform FAQ allows leaving it in the car or with a friend at the start point; Bluetooth range through a car body is not guaranteed, so the safe choice is a jersey pocket. If a run cannot be sent, it stays on the Edge as a FIT file.

Can I use the aeroAPP without a phone? Not for the guided session. The app measures and guides, but the calculation happens on the platform, and during the session the phone is the link between the two. Runs that could not be sent are saved as FIT files on the Edge and can be dropped onto the platform later.

The app works but shows no CdA after the run. Check in this order: is the phone connected and Garmin Connect open; did the run record power and speed (the Edge shows a message if not); did you ride the full route to the turn point and back. If the run was complete but could not be sent, it is on the Edge as a FIT file; drag it onto the platform later, or ride the next run once the phone is back in range.

Does it work on a Fenix or Forerunner? No. The aeroAPP is built for the Edge series listed above.

Which login do I use? Your afasteryou.com account, the same one you use on the website. The Garmin login is only the messenger.

Can I test on a velodrome with it? Yes, with the Coach account: the app has an indoor mode with automatic lap detection. That is a different protocol, described here.
